Antalya It would be risking redundancy to announce the discovery of a gem upon the Turquoise Coast, but in the case of Antalya, that is a risk worth taking. The glassy coolness of the mountains dramatic, snowcapped peaks towering in the distance are but dreamlike images to the one whose toes move idly in the warm, forgiving sand, or dabble in the aquamarine coolness of the shallow, clear Mediterranean. The heat is incredible, especially in August, despite the fact that you may have begun your day skiing.
In addition to skiing and beach lounging, vacationers to Antalya can raft through dramatic canyons, explore caves (while wearing scuba gear), or hike on the stern, yet rewarding trails through the thick, green, mountainous wilderness of Antalya. History buffs may have met their match here as archeologists continue to uncover artifacts dated back as far as 50,000 years, to civilizations about whom very little is known. The Antalya Archeaological Museum is the place where visitors should spend nothing less than an entire day, and even then only scratch the surface of the ancient mysteries that the region holds.
In fact, the best archaeological museum is located directly by Analya’s hottest, up and coming beach called Kaleici. Kaleici hasn’t been overdeveloped yet, and offers a fair share of untouched scenery
An incredible fusion of ancient secrets and natural beauty is found at the Chimaera, where Olympos once dwelled, gases that naturally seep out of the rock quite literally burst into flame. Obviously there is great speculation about the oracular qualities of such a phenomenon, which may or may not have existed during the time of the ancients. The bizarre geology of the region leads many to believe that could be possible.
And as if it couldn’t get any better, nightlife in Antalya is superb. With numerous hopping venues for all tastes, ranging from mellow chatting with attractive singles as silky daiquiris slide down your respective throats, or hardcore grinding on the dance floor to the mad thumping of Europe’s hottest Techno, Trance and House beats, there is something for everybody at the scene in Antalya. |
