Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen The volcanic dreamscapes and brightly colored lava fields of Lanzarote almost resemble a Dalí painting for their bizarre, austere, and breathtaking beauty, a grace that itself collides abruptly with the pulsing, grinding beach resort at Puerto del Carmen, where vacationers can truly live it up, and field researchers who perennially populate the island can let their hair down – the parties here are always a blast.
Upon arriving at Lanzarote’s Puerto del Carmen and checking into your hotel – you will have made your reservations months in advance, one can only hope – the best places to start out is the Avenida de las Playas. Before diving into the decadence, however, you might consider strolling up this bustling promenade just once, and then down it, to fully appreciate what it is all about. Shops, restaurants, bars, clubs and fashionable people from all over Europe – and well-tanned Spain, of course – strut their stuff here, it’s a slick and stylish scene, yet in many ways it’s surprisingly un-pretentious.
The Puerto del Carmen at Lanzarote features three beaches and numerous hotels. Tens of thousands of tourists visit this destination annually and most of them during the peak months of July and August. Early September is the best time to go, as well as in the springtime; May and even June when the weather is not too hot, and the resort town is not too crowded. While student-aged merry makers definitely are a solidly represented demographic, this resort is also very well suited for romantic couples and families as well.
There are many land-based sports and water sports to thoroughly entertain all visitors to Lanzarote’s Puerto del Carmen, and plenty of beach space to do it in. Swimming, snorkeling, diving, yachting, water skiing, jet skiing, wind surfing, parasailing and kite surfing are all an option, while resorts feature beach volleyball and tennis, as well as a variety of inside sports. Also look for bike rentals and discover the countryside surrounding the Puerto, via a cycling tour. |
