Ibiza

Ibiza

Hands down, Ibiza dominates the west side of the Mediterranean as the party destination, and throughout all of Europe the island is rivaled only by the Greek island of Ios as a destination for intense festivity with the largest selection of clubs, and the most unrelenting migration of “party tourists” from all over the world. People live by night in Ibiza, and they do so quite extravagantly, but the fact is somewhat bittersweet; by day, Ibiza offers a stunning landscape and some of the world’s most pristine, seductive fine-sand beaches that beckon to your summer spirit to relax in the warm, life-giving sunshine – if you can stay awake to enjoy it.

Actually, you’ll probably end up sleeping in the sun each day. Still, not bad. After the partying dies down and you stumble out of the After at about, say, 10A.M., you may nestle onto one of the fine beaches till the sun goes down. Recommended beaches in Ibiza are Fiqueretas, Las Salinas and Playa d’en Bossa. If you can’t find sleep, or you’re still feeling mysteriously energetic despite the lack of sleep (a phenomenon that affects many who flock to this island), then make sure to take advantage of all the great water sports available to island vacationers – swimming, snorkeling, windsurfing and more. Likely, however, you’ll be lounging about and worshipping not only the sun but the hard bodied pilgrims who’ve come to sing praise the golden orb alongside you.

The listlessness changes form towards sunset and becomes a veritable Spanish promenade (of international composure) intermittently tossing a Frisbee and chatting over ice-cold daiquiris. As the sun bursts into a maddening red explosion and dies out as neon lights flare up and bejewel the Ibiza nightscape, the promenade marches (in Spanish the phrase for “go clubbing” is ir a la marcha) off toward the clubs. Nightlife in Ibiza is, of course, spectacular – but with so much saturation, you must know where to go to really make a hit.

The Armada is a lasting favorite on the island, and regularly hosts DJ duals that are stunning in terms of their ingenuity as well as the fame of the artists. Space is a madhouse, and you’ll probably find yourself going back, and Meganite must not be missed. If sleeping on the beach isn’t your thing, you should book a hotel well before flying or ferrying onto Ibiza.
