Costa Calida The direct translation for “Costa Calida” is “Warm Coast”, and that is far from an exaggeration. Indeed, the hot sun beats down with benevolence upon this scenic stretch of white sandy beaches, and in the middle of winter, when the rest of Spain is freezing from cold snaps, the Costa Calida is strangely warm, thanks to its delectable microclimate making it totally normal for locals to go swimming on Christmas Day – imagine!
Murcia is the principle city upon the Costa Calida, and is a destination by its own right. Cut straight to the chase and spend a day sun bathing on Mar Menor, Murcia’s lovely beach which is well appreciated by larger and larger crowds every year. Those who revel in the social throng are far from dismayed by the near-professional people watching that takes place here, aided by a number of impromptu beach sports such as Frisbee, paddle ball, and more, as well as the beach volleyball area where people congregate and meet. Everybody is extremely friendly, making this beach a highly pleasant experience for young vacationers; romantic couples and entire families on holiday together.
Water sports on the Costa Calida include everything from windsurfing to kite surfing, and from jet skiing to water skiing and parasailing. Despite such grand selection a lot of people find simple thrill in just diving into the water and riding the very low-flying waves.
Inside the town of Murcia, a number of delightful attractions await the curious sightseer, who would like a little bit of respite from the relentless relaxation down on the beach. Start out your tour of Murcia at the Cardenal Belluga Plaza, the town center where one can get a strong idea of local culture. Sip sangria at and outdoor café and watch the local population go about their business that, here in southern Spain, hardly resembles business. Stroll over to the Santa Maria Cathedral, and discover an architectural wonder within the otherwise carefree beach town.
Stressed out from so much sightseeing? The many bars, pubs, nightclubs and discos will give you an opportunity to unwind and mingle with locals and foreigners alike. Nightlife in Murcia and all throughout the Costa Calida is locally recognized as among the best of the Spanish coasts. |
