Irish Cooking RecipesThe hearty inhabitants of the Emerald Isle have a rich tradition of tasty, ethnic recipes which burst with flavor and stave off the winter cold. Here are a few of Ireland’s best.

Irish Brown Soda Bread This tasty bread is delicious when served hot and the butter melts over it. It is also a delicious accompaniment to stews and pies.

Ingredients:
· 1 1/2 cups wheat flour
· 2 cups bread flour
· 3 teaspoons dry yeast, active
· 4 teaspoon of buttermilk powder
· 2/3 cup oats
· a couple pinches of salt
· 4 teaspoons of brown sugar
· 1 1/2 cups water
· 4 teaspoons gluten flour

Directions:
Mix all the ingredients together and knead thoroughly. Place in the refrigerator for an hour, then pull it out and knead thoroughly again. Ideally, use a bread maker for this recipe, and bake on medium heat.


Irish Bacon & Turnip Soup
Not only is this soup totally authentic to Ireland, it is flavorful and fun to make.

Ingredients:
· 6 large onions, chopped
· 2 tablespoon dripping
· 4 medium potatoes, chopped
· 500 g bacon, chopped into small squares
· 3 liters chicken stock
· 1 ½ kilograms peeled and diced turnips
· ground nutmeg
· ground pepper
· chopped parsley to be used as a garnish


Sauté the onions to translucence and throw in the bacon until it begins to get crispy. Then add the turnips and potatoes and stir it all up, cover it and put it on low heat for about ten minutes. At that point add the chicken stock and bring to a quick boil before reducing the heat again and letting it simmer for an hour. Then add the seasoning and garnish and serve hot.
