Holiday Rentals Ireland Ireland’s strong Celtic traditions have built an airy, mysterious character into many of its lands and people. An amble through most any city in Ireland will put you in sight of Gaelic signage. In some parts of the country and among some generations, you’re as likely to hear the Irish language, as you are English. It has developed tied to England, but wholly apart from it—making it one of the most alluring countries in Europe, if a bit off the beaten track.
All the development has put some tourist spots in peril. As bulldozers stand ready to clear space for highways and foundations, many in Ireland lament what will be lost. Many attractions in Ireland present a vanishing window of opportunity to tourists.
Yet as old attractions fade, new ones crop up – although their origin dates further back than anything: the excavation of Ireland’s well-known ancient ruins continues to turn up surprising discoveries.
Within city limits, Ireland has a well organized and constantly expanding system of light rail cars and double-decker buses. The chagrin many have in asking strangers for directions—common in many European cities—is unnecessary here, as there are almost always locals ready to point the way. The genuine, friendly Irish hospitality naturally extends to the agencies and businesses that cater to tourists. But as Sheridan Le Fanu put it, to an Irish person, “silver is the least interesting part of any game.”
Irish life revolves around companionship and humor. Close knit family structures compete with the draw of the pub crowd and the spectacularly colorful nightlife that overtakes Irish cities after dark. Beneath the benevolent gaze of Irish whiskey and stout, the young and beautiful and the old and widowed alike seek out simpaticos in public houses and watering holes throughout the country.
Lodging in Ireland is top rate and diverse. Most visitors do well in the splendid luxury accommodations and hotels throughout the larger cities and waterfront destinations. Rental apartments and villas in Ireland’s breathtaking countryside also offer surprising comfort and delight. Tourism is booming in Ireland, so be sure to make your lodging reservations well in advance. |
