Picardie

Picardie

The pastoral French countryside outlying Paris is no better epitomized than in the region of Picardie, just to the north of France’s capital city. Packed with historical sites of note, one of the main purposes of those who visit Picardie is high-style relaxation.

Picardie is a wonderful country retreat destination for Parisians, and the British, too, as a quick dip under the channel pops them out at Calais, and they cruise into Picardie with ease. Not just the British, the rest of the world lucky enough to come here recognize Picardie as a sophisticated, delightful destination to get away from it all.

The region boasts a series of idyllic golf courses for those who love the game, the Chantilly Golf Course being one of them. Despite being overshadowed by the racers, is a spending place for driving and putting to your heart’s content. At night, Chantilly offers a robust nightlife with bars and discos galore; you won’t spend a yawning moment here. Amiens is another lovely town in Picardie, which holds the strange fame of Jules Verne’s Home, the place where he wrote the novel Around the World in 80 Days. Nearby the French Ardennes, one can imagine how he drew his inspiration for adventure from the diverse landscape nearby.

Compiègne, although tiny, bears the footprints of the French aristocracy, with their unbelievably ornate homes restored for visitors’ eyes. Check out the Galerie du Bal dans le Palais de Compiègne to get an idea of the true magnificence in which the royals of France once lived. Somme is an area in Picardie named after the river that gurgles through it. Boating along the Somme and taking in the region’s landscape is a pleasing pursuit for any tourist. Get out at Noylon and whose importance as the seat of the once all-powerful Bishop is seen in the towering Cathedral in an otherwise quaint, yet unimposing town. Lodging anywhere in Picardie is a delight, as the service is splendid and the value great.
