Ciovo If Croatia is the Jewel of the Adriatic, then Ciovo is the diamond of the Dalmation Coast. Located in the central region of the archipelago, Otok Ciovo is a small island with bridge access to the mainland. Yet this doesn’t take away from the sense of idyllic seclusion that lures in selective visitors from around the world to wile away the summer months in a rental apartment or villa, intermittently sipping daiquiris, splashing in the turquoise clear water or sunning on the powdery white sand of the prized Ciovo beaches.
Diving is also big on Ciovio, as boats heading out from the island’s bay will take you out to some of the best spots in the Adriatic. These locations present a variety of splendid underwater arenas of magical Mediterranean vistas, nearby islands and night diving is also available. Diving equipment can be rented in the center of town, where you’ll want to ask about arranging a boat as well. It is common for fellow summer vacationers to arrange tours together and share boats, so don’t be shy! In addition to diving, sailing, swimming, and other water sports are widely available, in addition to just lounging on the beach, taking in the sun and occasionally joining in on a relaxed game of beach volleyball, or tennis at the courts located a few meters further inland.
Of course, Ciovo offers a lot more than just fun in the sun, as famous attractions on the island provide visual echoes of its rich past as a commercial crossroads between Athens and Venice – if it weren’t for the vibrant nightlife and beautiful vacationers who call Ciovo “home” during the summer months, this town could easily be marked off as yet another living museum, a gem along the Adriatic coast.
Apartment rentals are big here, and there is a certain level of perceived exclusivity. Don’t worry, though: booking early will ensure you a place on this idyllic summer vacation spot. |
